You won’t find any covered bridges in the desert, so this is as close as you’ll get to one. On a lonely road somewhere west of Phoenix, I discovered this bridge. It had such incredible oxidation taking place, that I couldn’t resist taking a few photos. In order to maintain a vintage feel, I didn’t convert it to b&w, but desaturated the original to the point that you see.
This is my contribution to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness this week. Instructions on how to participate, and the contributions of others can be found on her website.

Very nice. That heavy desaturation approach is one I have tried occasionally. I often prefer it to black and white, especially when you have to take a close look to see it.

I like when there is some subtlety to the color. In the case of this photo, I didn’t want to lose the rusted look to the bridge, and desaturating seemed best.

I like the “rustic” look…The texture of the rusty steel beams is felt and enjoyed.

Thank you 🙂 It didn’t have the same feel with all the color gone, and in color, the rust is so pronounced it almost looks painted on.
