For this week’s Daily Post Challenge of Ambience, I tried to think of one place that captures the mood of the southwestern deserts. Monument Valley, in the heart of the Navajo Indian Reservation, tops my list. As with any location that is highly visited, there is the tackiness that comes with tourism. But spend a day in this valley, and seek out moments of solitude. If you happen to be here when the rains come through, you might be rewarded with sunsets like this.

WOW! My heart is full of joy looking at this photo, I can only imagine how thrilling it would have seen this in person.

Thank you, Eliza! If that’s the case, I imagine there would be some grape or raspberry flavors. 🙂

Thank you very much, Suyash! April has potential for wet weather, and if that’s the case, it might be chilly. Best wishes for your trip there!

I’ve been to Monument Valley under all types of weather. It is in the desert, however, and odds favor sunshine over everything else. You will certainly want to be there for sunset.

Absolutely. I have never been to a desert, so I am all excited. Plus Monument Valley is such a famous place. Did you capture these shots in HDR mode with different EV values?

This one happens to be an old film favorite. There is very little on my site that I have taken in HDR mode.

Such a beautiful composition! I passed through Monument Valley on my way to the Grand Canyon and was regretful that my timeline did not allow me to linger. I plan to make it a destination in the future.
